I'M IN LOOOOVE

Please consider me Alice Smith's new groupie. I saw her perform last night in the city at the Highline Ballroom. It was the perfect venue - big enough to get a nice vibe going for Alice but small enough to still feel intimate. The crowd was the perfect mix of people and everyone clearly adored her as it was raining hard last night.

I bought her album a few weeks ago and have listened to it enough to know the words to all of her songs. I was hoping she would be as good live as she was on her album but she was infinitely better LIVE than pumping through my iPod headset.

I don’t know how to describe her voice like a professional critic. I just know she has a strong, sultry and soft voice all at the same time. She can go from a deep low to a soft high with one phrase and push her voice into all shapes and sizes like I’ve never heard before with confidence, soul and feeling that makes your skin get goose bumps.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you get the chance to see one live show this year, please go check out Alice Smith. Her voice is nothing short of amazing. UH-MAY-ZEENG. Her presence on stage is unaffected sexiness. The crowd loved her. Straight boys were shouting her praises because of her talent. Everyone was impressed across the board. She has the ability to draw the entire crowd and makes you feel like you know her.

Alice even did three cover songs as she admitted that her original repertoire is limited as this point "I only have so many songs, you know". She sang Bonnie Rait's "have a heart" like it was her own. Then she covered a Pretenders' tune and I'm sure Chrissie Hynde would be honored. And then ladies and germs - Miss Thang sang Billy Idol's "eyes without a face". Who would have thought? She proved she could take any damned song and lend her own genius to it. I just wanted to her to sing and sing and sing some more. Alice did unveil one new track she's been working on and all I can say is I can't wait for her next album to come out.

Thank you to Danni for pulling through and coming out to share the night with me. I know we'll be up front and center and any of Alice's future shows in the NY/Brooklyn area.
All I can say is I would have paid way more than the $15 her show cost.
